The first step is to choose which video file you wish to upload to a video hosting site and note the file format (this is very important and could later save you time). Secondly, you have many choices of video hosts to choose from; YouTube, Revver, Viddler, Vimeo, Flurl and Metacafe are only some of them. Once you have decided which site you want to go with, before creating a free account just check and see which video formats they support. Example if you have an FLV video file, make sure that YouTube supports that format. This is what I meant by saving yourself time.
In this editorial we will demonstrate the procedure of uploading a video to the internet using YouTube. YouTube is probably the most popular web hosting site around, and it is easy and free to create an account with them. Once you do, you can begin uploading videos (that you have a right to upload) immediately. Log into your YouTube account and select ‘my videos’. Select ‘upload’ from the dropdown tab and from there you are required to enter the details pertaining to your video – specifically the title, description and keywords.
It is worthy to mention that you should spend some time thinking about a good title that is related to your video as you want people to be able to find you. You should note that titles beginning with ‘how to’ are most popular as this is what many people search for when using the search engines. Complete your description and fill in the keywords. Select ‘upload video’ button and browse to locate the video you wish to upload. Select ‘open’ followed by ‘upload video’ and your video will upload – this process will take a few minutes depending on the size of the file.
Once uploaded you will now need to have a look through the settings that are there; some you will need to tweak to suit your needs whilst others that are set to default are ok as they are. In the ‘broadcast options’ it would be wise to select ‘public’ – for maximum exposure – otherwise it does not allow everybody to see your video. This setting also gives you (and others if you permit) the option to embed your video on the web. You might choose to leave the sharing options as they are as you have the option whether or not to allow other people to comment and rate your video.
